If you have not heard of Yosemite Valley, the United States' third national park, I suggest you type it into google images right now because the pictures will leave you awe struck. Yosemite National Park is 750,000 acres of marvelous beauty. John Muir, the biggest proponent for Yosemite's wilderness protection, once said, "Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, And climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." This first blog post will be a brief introduction to Yosemite Valley and the wonders it possesses.
John Muir knew Yosemite valley was an American treasurer and it became his life work to protect the Valley's beauty from peoples foolishness. Lucky for us he preserved a valley so beautiful it seems heavenly. My first trip to Yosemite was in middle school and I've been hooked ever since. From my experiences bike riding through Yosemite village, my families hike up to Vernal falls, and the ranger talks we attended left an imprint on me. Yosemite valley has been in creation for neons. Located in the east central California in the Sierra Nevada mountain range Yosemite Valley has about four million visitors annually! Visitors are mesmerized by El Capitan, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and so many other wonders. I remember the first time I visited Yosemite I thought, How was this created? A museum in Yosemite Village answer my question. Millions of years ago a massive granite model thrust up earths crust, known as the Sierra Nevada's. Arose a 400 mile long mass of solid rock. Water continued to cut canyons through the rock. When the climate shifted a glacier was formed which continued to cut through granite. Finally spring came millions of years later and the result was Yosemite Valley. Below is a 10 second clip of what Yosemite Valley looked like during its formation!
Glacation left Yosemite Valley as a U-shaped Canyon with jagged peaks, rounded domes, waterfalls and moraines.
